It’s just the beginning of April and the summers are already here. The days are long, and the sun is bright. As we venture into the sunny outdoors, it’s important to remember that too much of exposure is very dangerous for the skin as the harmful UVA rays penetrate deeply and damage collagen and skin cells and are responsible for premature aging of the skin.
While we change our wardrobes, it is also important to make a shift to what we consume and that is not only limited to the food but also to what our skin absorbs.
Choosing the right SPF
As soon as the summer hits, most of us are on a spree to get our hands on a good sun care lotion that has got high SPF to give the right protection but the theory here is altogether wrong. Choosing the right SPF is the most important thing to do. SPF is basically zinc Nano oxide and the skin being the largest organ is actually consuming the zinc nano oxide that is purely chemical. To reduce the Nano effect a lighter SPF sunscreen will help in reducing the nano effect.
Shea Butter is must
Use sunscreen or sunblock’s that have Shea butter. Shea butter is a natural skin protector. People who do not go much in sun can simply use Shea butter on their face as it is a natural protective towards UV damage and keep the skin hydrated.
Use cool ingredients
Opt for products or skin regime that include cool ingredients like Ashwagandha extract, cucumber, peppermint. This helps to keep the skin light and also balance the other ingredients.
Invest in a good vitamin c moisturizer
We tend to develop more dark spots under strong summer sunlight. It also destroys more collagen and gives us more wrinkles, which we call Photoaging. Vitamin C helps prevent hyperpigmentation and improve the fine lines.
Remember to exfoliate as well
Dermatologists often warn us not to over-exfoliate, yet summer is the perfect time to do just that. You should have “additional exfoliation” to your skin-care routine if you have oily skin. That doesn’t mean you should exfoliate every day with all your favourite acids, but gradually increase the number of days you exfoliate every week.
Avoid oily foods
If your skin is prone too acne, try avoiding oily foods especially in summer. Focus on light summery meals, juicy fruits, veggies. Try to limit red meat, spicy food and greasy fare as it increases the pressure of the digestive system. The high amount of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates, heat the body up while digesting.
